clogged up canals in the low-lying area. They say these canals have not been cleaned for years, and that the Mayor & Town Council is throwing the responsibility on the Region 6 Administration and vice versa, as to who is responsible for effecting the works to the canals.
One resident, Kurt Wynter, related to this newspaper that the area suffers from immense flooding whenever it rains since the blocked canals cannot accommodate the water. He stated that the Vryman’s Erven area is like a basin, and the entire area is covered by flood waters whenever it rains heavily.
The canals, he stated, are not being cleaned and he revealed that the M&TC of New Amsterdam did send a ‘Bobcat’ to do some cleaning a few weeks ago, but it was not done properly.
Efforts to contact the Region 6 Administration and N/A M&TC proved futile.
