Albouystown youths torment pensioner
…police refuse to help
Desmond Pompey, a pensioner of Albouystown, says that for the past three years some youngsters in his neighbourhood have been destroying and stealing his belongings and that he is helpless despite making many reports to the Ruimveldt Police Station.
The elderly technician told this publication that he is fed up. There is a gang of almost 15 young men, some in their early twenties while most of them are still teenagers, who have a penchant for making other people’s lives miserable by making all their hard work go down the drain.
The man’s car which is usually parked across the road from his house is a hangout for the village gang members, Pompey said. He added that they would sit on his car for hours and would curse at him if he objects to their treatment of his vehicle.
Pompey told Kaieteur News that the situation has got so out of control that he cannot keep making excuses that these boys might one day change for the better. Instead, they have all began to get worse.
Things now are such that he has to be scared for his life.
The man related that he has suffered much because of these boys and that he is not prepared to lose anymore. He said that his loses amounted to nearly $1M in the past two and a half years.
The man explained that one of the boys was once arrested and two gallons diesels as well as two truck batteries had been retrieved, however the young man was later released and that was the end of that matter.
The following night, as a method of getting revenge the boys allegedly “stabbed” the man’s car tyres several times before “lashing” his car down, damaging the said vehicle.
As if that was not enough, the boys apparently tried to break into Pompey’s car.
The distraught man said that he is still unable to replace the stolen items or repair his car. Pompey said that he has been taking the entire situation lightly but cannot anymore as now they have stolen his tools on which he depends to feed himself and the other nine members of his family.
The displeased man pointed out that when he reported the matter to the Ruimveldt Police Station, he was asked to gather evidence and then return to make the complaint.
“I want know if when I go there I am supposed to do them job” queered the man.
