‘Golden Jaguars’ receives timely boost, commitment towards attaining top honours
Just one day prior to their departure to Barbados for the return encounter of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Friday October 7, members of the Golden Jaguars football team received a cheque valued $300,000 that was initially promised to them if they were successful in two earlier matches against Barbados and Bermuda at the National Stadium Providence.
The cheque was handed over to the team by President of the Alpha United FC, Odinga Lumumba shortly before the commencement of their final training sessions. The team has so far compiled 6 points after winning the above mentioned games and will be contesting the return legs against Barbados and Bermuda on October 7 and 11.

Consequently, Lumumba disclosed that President Bharrat Jagdeo has promised each member a plot of land to facilitate construction of their houses once they qualify for the succeeding round of the tournament.
The Alpha United boss was in high praise of acting President (GFF), Franklyn Wilson for his efforts in the rebuilding process of local football and more particularly, the national team. He also showered praise on elderly statesman, Charles ‘Lily’ Pollard who, despite his advanced age continues to be of immense value to the team.
Technical Director of the squad, Jamal Shabazz and national coach, Wayne ‘Wiggy’ Dover also came in for high praise with Shabazz being singled out for his input in the development of the local squad “despite him being of Trinidadian nationality.”
Shortly afterwards, the players engaged in two hours training sessions which complimented several others conducted earlier under the supervision of Shabazz and Dover.
