The Georgetown Mayor and City Council is expecting to enhance its relations with China and possibly benefit from technical and monetary assistances for several projects including the rehabilitation of the City Hall, says Deputy Mayor, Robert Williams.
Williams revealed yesterday during a press conference at City Hall, that the Vice Mayor, Honourable Chen Qi, from the City of Fuzhou, Fujian Province, People’s Republic of China (PRC) and a delegation will be paying a one-day visit to Guyana tomorrow.
He stressed that the Council and by extension the country will benefit from this renewed relationship as the Fujian Province is part of an emerging first world country.
In addition, to bilateral discussions, the visiting team along with the Council will be engaged in a tree planting exercise at the Promenade Garden, Georgetown. They will also be visiting the Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Norman Whitaker.
