Dear Editor,
The PPP organized Impress Youth Expo which was recently held at the International Convention Centre leaves much to be desired and shows how little regards the PPP has for young people.
This letter is penned to show how the PPP destroyed youths and now because of elections it is in a rush to salvage its relationship with the young people.
The PPP has a youth arm, the Progressive Youth Organisation (PYO) which was a very vibrant organization in the not so distance past but the current leadership of the PPP helped and contributed in a very large way to destroy this once vibrant organization.
Mr. Editor, the PYO is an organization with its own constitution, flag, etc and is constitutionally bound to have its congress every three years.
The last congress it had was in 1999, four congresses are constitutionally due. This is an indictment on the leadership of both the PYO and the PPP. The current leader of the PYO is Dr. Frank Anthony who happens to be the Minister of Culture, Youth & Sport.
Because of its failed promises to the youths within the PYO and the party itself, the PYO has become non-existent and that is the reason why young people from all over the country had to be imported under false pretexts to attend the Impress Youth Expo which was organized by a handful of cronies of President Jagdeo, who has Donald Ramotar and some of the members in the leadership of the party wrapped around his finger.
If the PYO is alive and strong then its congress should be held and the PYO can be of tremendous support to the PPP especially in the upcoming elections, as it has done in the past. The PPP never paid polling agents and scrutineers to work for elections, this was usually done by PYO, WPO and PPP foot soldiers. Now the party employs this category of workers from all quarters and pays them itself. R. Singh
