Guyana advanced to finals of the Digicel Junior Caribbean Squash Championships at Georgetown Club yesterday as both boys and girls won 5-0 in the semifinals against Jamaica and Trinidad respectively.
Ashley Khalil (U-19) won Emily Bones 3-0 with 11-2, 11-0 and 11-8. Kayla Jeffery (U-19) overcame Angelique Jackson 11-2, 11-2 and 11-0, Akeila Wiltshire (U-15) accompanied her team mates as she defeated Marion Gillezaue 3-0 with 11-5, 11-3 and 11-5. Kydia Alphonso (U-13) won her tie 11-2, 11-5 and 11-4. Victoria Arjoon (U-17) defeated Charlotte Knaggs 3-2 with 11-8, 9-11,10-12, 11-9 and 11-9. Among the boys Deje Dias (U-19) won his tie against Ashante Smith with 11-4, 11-4 and 11-5. Patrick Fraser (U-13) defeated Stephan Morrison with 12-10, 11-7 and 11-8 as Alex Arjoon (U-19) beat Josh Mahfood 12-10, 11-6 and 12-10. Jason Ray Khalil (U-17) joined his team mates in the winning as he defeated Jullian Morrison with 11-3, 11-6 and 14-12. Nyron Joseph (U-15) also won against Jake Mahfood with 11-5, 11-8 and 11-9.
Jamaica’s female team defeated the Cayman Islands 4-1 as Trinidad’s males defeated Bermuda 3-2.
The finals will be today with Guyana’s females competing against Jamaica at 10:00am and Guyana’s males face Trinidad and Tobago at 3pm at the Georgetown Club, Camp Street.
