Play for pride in final game against Gelder de Kourou tonight

Alpha United Head Coach Wayne ‘Wiggy’ Dover believes that his charges played well against Suriname’s Inter Moengotapoe despite losing an epic battle 10-11 on sudden death penalty kicks on Thursday night at the Stade Edward Lama, Remire Montjoly.
The local champions came from a goal down to draw level before giving away two more goals but had the fight to even the score thereafter, pushing the game to penalty kicks.
Commenting on the performance, Dover stated that it was a good game given the fact that they were beaten 0-3 by US Matoury on Tuesday evening and had just one day to recover before game two.
“I think the players responded well to the challenge, they showed excellent character and fight. It was a poor night for our goalkeeper but generally, this team which is not our best I think did well.”
He felt that a fitter side would have been more focused on the task and is hoping for a better result in their final match set for tonight against Gelder de Kourou from 20:00hrs.
“It is important for us to leave French Guiana with a win. It has been a good exposure for the younger players who would not have gotten the chance if those players who are in the USA were here, so I think they have shown what they can do with more exposure similar to this tournament.”
Regarded as one of the most successful coaches in Guyana, Dover noted that he hopes the players understands what it takes to win at this level pointing out that good teams will always make you pay for little lapses.
He believes that a bit more work has to be put in by the team looking ahead to the CONCACAF Champions Cup next month where a full time fitness trainer is required to whip the team into tip top shape.
“Our players too have to work harder at this level and we will surely be a force to reckon with. So generally, I believe that we are on the right path and with a bit more commitment across the board, Alpha will do Guyana proud.”
It is likely that the same starting X1 with the exception of Andrew Murray who was red carded will be on the pitch this evening as Alpha goes all out for a consolation win. Bishop might be the likely replacement for Murray.
Possible starting X1: Richard Reynolds, Shavane Seaforth, Travis Grant, Anthony Abrams, Warren Gilkes, Quincy Madramootoo, Kelvin McKenzie, Clive Andries, Keon Sears, Andrew Murray, Selwyn Isaacs and Shawn Bishop.
