Sheldon Alfred Jeffrey, 31, a labourer of Smythfield, New Amsterdam will have to spend the next four years in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of cultivating prohibited plants.
According to prosecutor Corporal King on June 14, the police acting on information proceeded to Jeffrey’s home at Smythfield, and search the premises, where at the back of the yard inside and behind a pen they found 11 plant pots containing 23 marijuana plants, ranging from three feet to six feet in height.
Jeffrey was told of the offence, arrested and charged.
He appeared in the New Amsterdam Magistrate court on Friday before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo and pleaded guilty.
He was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine.
Corporal King in his submission further told the court that this is not the first time that Jeffrey has being incarcerated for crimes of such nature.
In 2001, he was jailed for four years on a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
In 2004 he was jailed for three years on a charge of the cultivation prohibited plants.
