Dear Editor,
Clement Rohee just seems to love to amuse the Guyanese nation with his usual antics. First he said “goat na bite me” in his bid for the presidential candidate and later he said he has the DNA to be president.
Now he penned a letter in the Kaieteur News on June 1, 2011 boasting about democracy in Guyana.
He is boasting about Guyana return to democracy after 1992. Reading his letter no one can believe that this is the man running the security affairs in Guyana. No wonder Guyana is experiencing the highest crime rate in its history.
Do not forget, this same Minister of Home Affairs said recently that crime is under control.
The PPP/C controls almost all of the print and electronic media, whether directly or indirectly. The only radio station in Guyana is controlled by the PPP government. Even in dictatorships such as Cuba, China that he praises and poor countries like Haiti have dozens of radio stations but democratic and free Guyana has only one.
The Chronicle newspaper, which is government owned never publishes letters that are critical of the government.
He was lucky that Kaieteur News, which he criticised, published his letter which has no substance or meaning.
Clement Rohee has no moral authority to criticise any columnists, newspapers or letter writers as the old saying goes, “those who live in glass houses should not pelt stones”.
In any democracy Clement Rohee would have had to resign for abusing his powers as a Minister of Government.
Only recently a Jamaican Minister resigned because of the revocation of his US Visa. Rohee have to explain why his US visa was revoked.
Recently Rohee was accused by a Guyanese couple in a Canadian Refugee Court for illegal activities and the couple was granted refugee status by the Refugee Board.
Rohee’s reaction in his own “democratic way” was to use the police force under his control to harass the couple’s counsel when he returned to Guyana.
Where in the democratic world, can a Minister order his Commissioner of Police to arrest and questioned a citizen when that citizen has not committed an offence in his country or a foreign country?
We have many cases where Guyanese and foreigners are arrested and questioned for no real reasons by the local police, which is under the control of Rohee as Minister of Home Affairs.
If the PPP/C government is all that good, why hundreds of Guyanese are filing for refugee status in Canada and many others are fleeing to the small Caribbean islands each year?
If Guyana is a democracy why people are afraid to speak or write anything against the government?
Anywhere I go, people would whisper to me, “watch yourself”, “be careful”, “get out of Guyana”, “this government is wicked” and so on. Fear stalks this land as never before.
Why in this “democratic” Guyana, people are not granted TV Station licence, radio licence etc.
Why only people who are loyal to the ruling party are granted house lots, duty free concessions, fire arm licences, high paying jobs etc.
Those who do not want to lick boot have to “stay and burn” or “cut and run” from Rohee’s “Democratic Guyana”.
