Dwight Leila, on May 28, last, who was charged with assault, appeared yesterday before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
On Croal Street he unlawfully assaulted Darshanand Latchman, causing him actual bodily harm.
The defendant who is a conductor and resides at 226 John Street, Werk-en-Rust was reportedly conducting his bus when he demanded $60 from Latchman who refused to pay that sum.
The result was that Leila cuffed Latchman to his mouth. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
The prosecution had no objection to bail.
Leila was then granted bail in the sum of $25,000 and is expected to make his next court appearance on June 27.
