Dear Editor,
It is with great disgust and disdain that I read and hear about this shameless ‘sport and drink’ event dubbed Feminition, being promoted by the Ministry of Human Services under the guise of ‘helping’ women.
Even the slowest of students at our nation’s schools for the mentally challenged would see this as nothing more than a political bacchanal that has absolutely nothing to do with improving the plight of Guyanese women.
This lawless and classless wine-down event, at which alcohol will be sold in abundance, will provide the very conditions and atmosphere that leads to sexual abuse and violence in the first place.
Minister Manickhand has exposed her ‘don’t-give-a-damn’ attitude about women’s well-being very clearly here, having chosen to spend $15M on a show and dance instead of plugging this much needed cash into programmes that are supposed to help victims of abuse, but can’t, for lack of funding.
All right-minded women should loudly protest this travesty that boldly declares this rum fete to be the ‘definition of woman’.
The only thing this event defines is the gross incompetence of Ms. Manickchand in particluar, and the PPP/C government in general. Brandon McAllister
