A 23-year-old police constable was killed at around 03:20hrs yesterday at Line Path, Skeldon, Berbice, after swerving from a cow and crashing his car into a bridge.
Police Constable 20963 Michael Anthony, who worked at the Springlands Police Station, sustained head injuries and was pronounced dead at the Skeldon Hospital.
Kaieteur News understands that Anthony, who was off duty, was partying with an overseas-based Guyanese and other friends.
Sometime around 03:00 hours, they took their friends home to Crabwood Creek.
They were heading to the Springlands Police Station when Anthony, who was driving, swerved from a cow and slammed into a bridge. He died shortly after.
Another passenger, identified as 22-year-old Joshua Bahadur of Kingston, Corriverton, received injuries and was treated at the hospital and sent away.
Police Commander of Berbice, Steve Merai told Kaieteur News that an investigation has been launched and that the police are awaiting a post mortem.
