Dear Editor,
The Commissioner General of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), Khurshid Sattaur has issued a directive to the authorities responsible for the issuing of shop licences for both new and renewal, which among other clauses, state that a Sanitary Certificate of fitness must be presented before a licence could be issued for the premises in question.
Mr. Editor, under the ambits of the job specification and description of an Environmental Health Officer (EH0) the inspection and issuing of certificate of fitness for certain premises do not fall under his or her normal list of duties, for example the inspection of a hardware store.
The Government Analyst, Food and Drug Department is paying a duty allowance of $6,324.00 per month to each EHO who is carrying out extra duties as a Food & Drug Inspector on behalf of the Department. As such, the GRA should pay a duty allowance to EHO for carrying out extra duties on behalf of the GRA.
The list of duties for an EHO can only be altered by the Minister of Local Government and Regional Development and/or the Minister of Health.
