Hopefully this victory will bring back commonsense and purpose to WI cricket

Congratulations to the West Indies. It was too long in coming. This win highlights what team effort can do, almost everyone chipped in and contributed, it was most gratifying, given the acrimony and pointed exchanges, between the senior players and administrators.
This win hopefully will bring back some commonsense and purpose to WI cricket. The senior players Sarwan and Chanderpaul did make a difference, with Chanderpaul dogged 36 in the second innings making a huge difference.
This is what experience brings and this is what the think tank and coach should understand. Every player has to be handled differently and it was sad to see Shiv having to take his argument with the administrators public.
That being said the senior players also have to understand what is expected from them and deliver accordingly.
Sarwan’s dismissal in the first innings was totally reckless and uncalled for, a player of his class and ability should not have been playing such a high risk shot at that stage of the innings. It reminded me of his innings against Australia last year, when he played the same shot against Hauritz in the over before lunch. I am a big fan of Sarwan, but with his experience, class and talent he should be able to read the game more properly and not allow himself to be dismissed in this manner.
Now if I were the coach and I see one of my experienced players getting dismissed like this, I would be dammed mad, as any senior player should know these basics.
Ramphal, what a performance. I am not a big fan of Ravi, but boy has he improved significantly, some of the balls he bowled reminded me of the days WI ruled the world with their fast bowling (Babylon Fire), he has the ability to make the ball come back sharply and bounce.
Bishoo, great performance, you should continue to stay focused I like your attitude of not going over the top when you get a wicket you go back and get on with it (Gary Sobers could not understand the excessive celebration that goes on these days when a player gets a basic wicket), its only the start, forget what you did. While your performance was very good, remember the past is prologue, you have to continue to grow learn and be better each day, you are a very good bowler with a great temperament, don’t live on yesterday’s accomplishment, keep working and set your bar higher.
Dareen Sammy must have been the most abused man in WI cricket until the win yesterday. But let’s credit Sammy, he plays with enormous heart, shows that talent alone does not get you there, its how hard you try and continue to try.
He captained this side very well, his field placing was spot on, four slips and gully, this is what makes cricket interesting, he is not a dull and defensive captain, keep it up Sammy, you deserve this win and much more.
One final comment: I heard the commentators saying what a bad wicket this was, I did not see it that way, it was good to see batsmen having to graft and use their skills to get runs and not the featherbeds we see in most countries where a ton of runs are piled on. To the coach and players put the past behind you and work to make West Indies cricket great again, for West Indies cricket is greater than the administrators and players.
