Dear Editor,
I was in Guyana recently and many Guyanese asked me about David Granger. Some of them asked me what I knew of Granger’s role in the 1973 elections, and some wanted to know if he would restore law and order. All of them expressed outrage at the immoralities that have engulfed the PPP government, especially some elite officials at the Office of the President.
As regards David Granger’s role in the 1973 elections I explained that Granger was only a Junior Officer in 1973, and that he was stationed at Atkinson Airbase. He did not command combat troops then, and as such he did not play an active role.
I referred them to the Justice Dhan Jhappan Report which found that it was Lt Henry, three soldiers and two constables, who were confronted by a PPP instigated crowd at night, and that Lt Henry was justified in using force. At no time during the inquiry was Granger’s name mentioned.
In the nearly 40 years since the 1973 elections, neither the PPP nor anyone ever made any accusations against Granger. Now that Granger is the PNCR’s presidential candidate, the PPP and its evil leaders are hurling all sorts of lies at him.
They cannot openly say that Granger is African and must not be president. So they use words such as “adviser to Burnham,” “elections rigging,” and “blood on hands.” These phrases were designed to invoke fear of the PNCR and Africans. It is plain PPP racism and it is a crime against God.
Voters, especially the younger ones, should ask themselves if the PPP supported the PNC after the elections, and eventually held secret power sharing talks with Burnham, why are they now rehashing the past to whip up PPP racism? The PPP has been in power for 19 years and it must be assessed on those 19 years and not on what happened 40 years ago. I refer Guyanese, especially those on the Corentyne, to the report, “Six men sodomise Corentyne secondary school student,” (Kaieteur News 03-24-11).
It was reported that six men raped a Form Two girl at Port Mourant, and that under aged girls were “working” at a night spot as waitresses, cashiers, and dancers. It was also reported that schoolgirls at Skeldon were making sex videos.
Other reports stated that some girls aged 13 to 15 years old had been impregnated at school. These reports are a reflection of the extent to which societal moralities have declined, and lawlessness pervades. The PPP Government leaders and officials at the Office of the President have set no example.
They have been embroiled in scandals of sexual exploitation of young girls, homosexual molestation of schoolboys, wife abuse, death threats, rape, gold claim jumping, bogus duty free super luxury vehicles, pistol whipping, hit and run, and many more. One minister’s son caused the death of a pedestrian with his duty free US$100,000.00 Hummer.
This is what Guyana has come to after 19 years of PPP rule. Imagine how much worse it will get if the PPP is voted into government again. This is what we must judge the PPP on. Corentyne residents, especially young married couples, must decide if they want their children to grow up in such an environment. I am sure they do not.
The number one priority for Guyana is the restoration of discipline, law and order, and morality. It has to start at the top with the President and government.
We need a just and righteous President who can immediately stamp his personal values of discipline, morality and religious values on government and society. David Granger is a family man, a man of morality and religious values. He is a good role model for young people. He will make an excellent President for all Guyanese.
