The two teams in the final of the Mayor’s Cup football championship, which is set for Thursday April 21 at the Georgetown Football Club ground, Bourda, Fruta Conquerors and Sunburst Camptown, are in full preparation mode and a spirited battle is anticipated when these two sides collide.
They will be battling for a $1M first prize, which has been put up by His Excellency, President Bharrat Jagdeo.
Thursday April 21 will see apart from the Grand Finale, two other games being contested. The programme opens with an exhibition game between the defending Mayor’s Cup champs Guyana Defence Force and New Amsterdam United at 5:30pm, while Pele and Alpha square off in the third place playoff at 7:00pm, with the final set for 9:00pm.
Striker Nigel Codrington will lead Camptown, while Vurlon Mills will carry Conquerors attack.
Mayor’s Cup Coordinator Lennox Arthur informed that for the final night, fans can expect more seating and also additional lighting which will add to the ambience of the evening’s programme.
The MVP of the tournament will ride off with a motorcycle, compliments of Jailing, while the highest goal scorer will collect a television set from Keishar’s. Marvin Joseph (5) of Pele and Dwain Jacobs (4) of Alpha are the players heading the list and could add to their tally on the final night of action.
The most promising Under-19 player involved will claim a three piece suite from AH&L Kissoon. The second prize is $500,000 and has been put up by Body Max gym, MACORP is the donor of the third prize of $200,000 and Busta has provided the $100,000 fourth prize.
