The Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA) on Sunday last played off another competition as it stays true to its pledge to keep volleyball players in the ancient county as active as possible.
The latest competition was played at the Guysuco Training Centre Hostel compound at Port Mourant, Corentyne. Six teams participated with host Guysuco Training Centre having three teams and the others being Port Mourant Jaguars, Falcons of East Canje and Albion United.
In the end after a day of keen competition, host team GTC 1, emerged winners after defeating Port Mourant Jaguars 25- 21, 25- 17, while the recently resuscitated Albion United took home third place.
The day’s activity was coordinated by former national captain Levi Nedd. Nedd, who is the BVA’s vice president and current national Coach, is also the students’ affairs officer at the GTC. Since his appointment to the institution the Centre has become a force to be reckoned with in the volleyball circles in Guyana.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Nedd stated that the objective of hosting so many competitions is to continue to promote the sport, ignite public interest and to take the sport back to where it was.
The tournament was sponsored by the Culture, Youth and Sport Ministry and the Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA).
The BVA has two other tournaments planned for the month March, the first will be on March 13 with the playing off of the rescheduled second Division competition at Reliance Canje, while the second tournament is slated for Sunday March 21 with a Beach competition at the No63 Beach. (Samuel Whyte)
