Elcock’s Prince Charming crowned champion with upset win in RCMTC feature

The 2011 Horse racing season was off to an enterprising start when the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club staged a successful one day horse race meet last Sunday at the Clubs entity at Alness Corentyne Berbice.
It was brilliant riding and excellent team work at play as Prince Charming of the Elcock Stable, which seems to have acclimatized enough, was able to come through with tremendous speed over the last 200m down the homestretch to score its first win in the horseracing circles in Guyana to run way away with $350,000 and the Banks DIH trophy over 1100m.
As the horses were sent on their way it was the veteran Delmur Gold of the Elcock stable with Jamaican Andron Findlay on board which was setting a gallop. Down the back stretch Delmur Gold was joined by Gullium of the Jagdeo stable with Paul Delph on the mount as the animals continued with a searing pace. With the Elcock stable having three animals and the Jagdeo entity having two no quarters were being asked for as none were given.
The see saw battle continued leading into the homestretch when Prince Charming known for its speed started to challenge the leaders and with a final burst of speed caught up with front runners and like a Rolls Royce just veered ahead to smoothly cantered home by about two lengths as Gullium held on for second .
Delmur Gold battled all the way to stay third ahead of King Maker of the Jagdeo stable in its first race, as the two stables occupied the top four spots.
Top of the Line of The Jumbo jet Stable ridden by Paul Delph put in a top class performance to take top honours in the F class event the $240,000 top money and the GTM trophy ahead of Fairly Landing, Face De Music and Laura Lee in Flight in another 1100m race.
Super Cat of the Rommel Jagroop stable and ridden by Colin Ross was unstoppable as it continued its superb form with a gate to pole beating of its rivals in the Three Year old event for animals born and Bred in Guyana.
It was its fourth consecutive victory on the turf. The animal had dominated the two year old events last year. Rounding out the money were Royale Salute, Prince Renuka and Daily Millions. The win is worth $200,000 and the Just water trophy over 1200m.
Stormy Lass of the Habibulla stable with Jockey Yap Drepaul in the stirrups was the first to cross the finishing line in the competitive G class event ahead of Stormy Deal, Pegasus Rising and Bob Fortune for the $200,000 winners money and the Rakesh Trophy over 1100m.
There was much celebration for connections of the Elcock stable as Celebration Time jockeyed by Kevin Paul was the most convincing winner o the days programme with a gate to pole victory for the $150,000 top prize and the John Ali trophy as Dream Girl, Prospector Pride and Royal Champion were put to their places. The distance was 1200m.
Mona Lisa of the Crawford stable with Yap Drepaul in the saddles sailed away from its opponents with a driving finish in the I class event, which had a winners take of $120,000. Clear Victory, Beyonce and Extra heat were the other placers.
Try Again with Colin Ross on the perch continues to churn out victory after victory as it took another first place with an easy win. Showing plenty speed down the homestretch as its opponents wilted to run away with the JKL class event and the $100,000 first prize and the Dahoo Auto sales trophy from, Beyonce, Sporting Time and Silver Kid.
The event was well managed and organised with no major disputes.
The top jockey on show was Yap Drepaul with Colin Ross and Kevin Paul also outstanding. The Elcock stable was adjudged the best stable on show. They all received accolades compliments of The Ryan Crawford memorial Turf Club and the Trophy Stall Bourda market.
Prize money totaling over $3.5 M in cash and prizes were on offer with some 75 Horses taking to the starting gates.
