Police have detained a 40-year-old Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara man following the death of a taxi driver at around 21:00 hrs last night.
Kaieteur News understands that the victim, identified as Dhanpaul Rambarack, 46, of Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara, was pronounced dead on arrival at the West Demerara Regional Hospital after being beaten by the suspect, who is his friend.
According to reports, Rambarak and the other man, who is a money-changer, were drinking at the suspect’s house when an argument broke out over money.
It is alleged that the two men began to scuffle with Rambarak collapsing after getting the worse of the exchange.
The friend with whom he had been fighting took Rambarak to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Kaieteur News understands that the friend was detained after making a report at the Leonora Police Station.
