Dear Editor,
I wish to state that I have been a customer of Republic Bank from the time of its launching in Guyana to present, and I wish to point out that the customer service within its Camp and Robb streets and Water Street branches are exceptional and I congratulate the management and staff of those branches. I sincerely hope that customers of the other branches throughout Guyana share similar sentiments.
However, I do have some concerns as it relate to the Bank’s Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and wish to make some suggestions. My suggestions range from improving the number of ATMs at current locations and adding more locations where customers can access the machines.
For instance three machines are found on each side at the Water street branch and very often not all the machines work at the same time, customers have to wait for very long periods to access a machine. I suggest that the bank add at least two more machines on each side, thus improving it to five machines (on each side). This will help to shorten the waiting time and ease the congestion of persons.
I recall that it has been like that for a number of years and I think the time is right for an upgrade at this location. While not being too much of a critic, I think that perhaps sheds should also be built to shade the waiting customers.
I am also of the opinion that additional machines should be added at the New Market Street branch and at the Kitty gas station. I have had personal experiences where I needed quick cash and had to leave home on the East Coast and use the closest ATM, which is at Kitty only to find that the one machine is not working. I then had to drive to New Market Street to find that one out of the two is working and had to wait. I even recalled visiting Kitty ATM and then New Market ATM to discover that none was working and had to proceed to the camp street ATM.
I am certain that other customers have had similar or even worst experiences. The point is that Republic Bank need to expand its ATM reach to customers in out of town areas. As an East Coast resident, I suggest installing ATMs at strategic locations along the coast (there are many gas stations on the East Coast). This will certainly ease the burden of customers (ATM users) and boost an otherwise incomparable service.
