Puran’s Bothers will be undertaking the road project at ‘Aproo’ Street aka Sukhai Street, Friendship, East Bank Demerara to the tune of $3.1M. Manager of Puran’s Brothers, Kalesh Warpuran, said that the project will recommence tomorrow.
Frustrated residents had complained of the state of the road works in Friendship and had called on the Government and Neighbourhood Democratic Council to investigate the road construction.
According to Warpuran, the Manager of Puran’s Brothers, the contract was awarded last year and works commenced last Tuesday for a 500 feet by eight feet road. However, due to the unpredictable weather, works were stalled and the machinery was removed from the area.
“Instead of leaving the machinery there and paying a security we moved it.”
He explained there was also a problem with the access bridge to the worksite.
Trucks carrying construction materials into the site were unable to cross because of their weight.
Warpuran said that a surveyor visited the site but the works did not get started on the demarcations because of the weather. Residents should not be afraid of the works being done according to specifications, he said.
He added that a mixture of loam and sand will be used to pave the roadway. However, residents are of the opinion that such a combination of loam and sand is a waste of time and money by the Government since when the heavy rains will convert the road into a mud dam once again.
“All this time we had to wait for a road; why don’t they do something proper?”
