…500 children receive gifts
The faces of hundreds of children from the Queenstown and Fisher Primary Schools on the Essequibo Coast, lit up with smiles when a grey vehicle pulled up outside their school and a man dressed in red and white disembarked.
The children from the different schools were heard screaming and shouting “Welcome Santa to our school”.
Many were neatly dressed in their colourful Christmas party attire and took the opportunity to take photographs with the popular character. Children danced their feet off to different tunes with Santa and at the end there were the gifts.
More than 500 benefited from the occasion sponsored by the Radio Needy Children’s Fund.
According to a representative, Sattie Sankar, “RCNF” has been in existence for over 50 years and the organization has been able to achieve its main objective— bringing cheer and happiness to children throughout Guyana.
Sankar said that RCNF, over the years, has been sponsoring many parties as well as distributed gifts to the less fortunate during the festive season.
She added that over the past decade the non-profit organization has taken the initative of taking Santa Claus to visit schools especially on the occasion of children’s Christmas party.
This year the organization hosted a party for the pupils at Queenstown primary and also provided gifts for the pupils at Fisher School.
Sankar said the organization is currently involved in distributing toys to the most vulnerable communities in Region Two.
“Christmas is all about love and the gift is a symbol of love”.
Head Teacher of Fisher Primary School, Leola Marslow, said she was appreciative of Radio Needy Children’s Fund providing gifts to pupils of her school.
She said that she could see how happy the children were when they saw Santa and complimented the non profit organization for the fruitful gesture.
