Mac Masters “A” XI prevailed over Mahaica Kings XI by 10 wickets when play in the Regal Stationery and Computer Centre Over-35 males 20/20 and females open 10/10 softball cricket tournament continued at venues countrywide.
The latter team called correctly and elected bat on a wicket containing some wetness due to overnight rains. Dennis Mangru (4-3 from 4 overs) capitalized on the wet conditions to restrict Mahaica Kings X1 to 54 all out in 13.1.
He received support from Vinod Lall (3-17 from 4 overs). Rahaman Rafeek (30*) from 10 balls and Kalesh Doobay (20*) then took their team to victory in 5 overs of enterprising batting.
Mahaica Kings redeemed themselves shortly afterwards, defeating Back Street Warriors by 29 runs.
The winning team batted first and scored 130-9 in 20 overs after Errol Emanuel lashed a brilliant half century (51) decorated with five sixes. Mukesh Persaud (3-18 from 4 overs) and Bhagwant Rampersaud (2-23 from 4 overs) contrived to restrict Back Street Warriors to 101 in 17 overs. Their top batsman was Ritesh Balkarran (29).
In other matches P&B XI defeated Marshon XI by 10 wickets after Marshon SC were inserted and made 77 all out in 14.4 overs. P&B XI then raced to 78 without loss after Dindial Khemraj clobbered 46 (4×6; 4×4) and Fallim Mohamed scored an unbeaten 19 decorated with 2 sixes and a similar number of fours.
In the females category Mahaica Queens defeated Supply Wreckers by 32 runs after the former team batted first and rattled up 88-7 in 10 overs before restricting Supply Wreckers to 56-6 in their allotted 10 overs.
Sangeeta Sawh (25) and Britney Austin (17) were the main contributors with the bat for the winners while Michell Syfox (4-10 from 2 overs) and Tanya Prince (2-7 from 2 overs) were the best bowlers for the losers.
Mahaica Princesses ‘A’ then made light work of supply Wreckers (in their second match), winning by 8 wickets. Supply Wreckers again took first strike and made 55-5 in 10 overs. Abiola Todd 15 was the best batter while Shanelle Hussain (3-7 from 2 overs) was the best bowler for the opposition. She received support from Simone Duke (2-11 from 2 overs). Mahaica Princesses ‘A’ then raced to 56-2 in 6 overs after Shonnette Duke top scored with 31. This was despite Alana Prince’s 2-12 from 2 overs.
The tournament continues with several exciting matches at various venues over the coming weekend. Activities are organised by the Guyana Softball League in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.
