The New Building Society (NBS) 2nd Division 40-Over Berbice Cricket Competition continued recently with No. 71 and West Canje becoming the first teams to qualify for the quarter-finals.
Leading No. 71 to their easy win over No. 43 Scorpions were Somdat Singh (93 with7 fours and 9 sixes), Nazim Mohamed (76 with 4 fours and 7 sixes) and Berbice Under-19 all-rounder Mark Lionel (58 with 5 fours and 1 six). The trio guided their team to 330-6 in 35 overs before No. 43 Scorpion were dismissed for 199 in 25.3 Overs.
West Canje posted a challenging 181 in 33.3 overs against Weroni Volcano of the Berbice River. The West Canje opening bowlers, former Berbice Under-19 cricketer Riaz Kassim and Sunil Sammy picked up 3 wickets each to help restrict Weroni to 131 in reply.
Also scoring half centuries were Kumar Gopaul of Crabwood Creek Rising, Hemnauth Ramsaroop of No. 68 Turn Team and Virvasha Ramdharry of No. 69 Vikings.

At Lochaber, West Canje beat Weroni Volcano by 50 runs. West Canje 181 in 33.3 Overs with Safraz Kadir 35, Riaz Kassim 32, Kurt Sinclair 3 for 28, Lance Osbourne 2 for 30. Weroni Volcano 131 in 26.3 Overs with Rohan Fredericks 29, Riaz Kassim 3 for 17, Sunil Sammy 3 for 24.
At Crabwood Creek, Crabwood Creek Rising beat Springlands by 70 runs. Crabwood Creek Rising 152 in 28.2 Overs with Kumar Gopaul 66, Duane Edwards 29, Eric Phillips 2 for 19, Jameal Inshanally 2 for 22, Frank Abraham 2 for 32. Springlands 82 in 17.5 Overs Javid Khan 3 for 28, Sunil Chanderdat 3 for 9.
At No. 68, No. 69 Vikings beat No. 68 Turn Team by 5 wickets. No. 68 Turn Team 190 in34 Overs with Hemnauth Ramsaroop 74 N.O, Vishwanauth Lallbeharry 4 for 29, Sunil Ramrattan 3 for 38, Wazir Ally 2 for 25. No. 69 Vikings 193 for 5 in 28 Overs with Virvasha Ramdharry 59, Vishwanauth Lallbeharry 27.
At Rose Hall in Canje, Rose Hall Community Centre beat Adelphi by 50 runs. Rose Hall Community Centre 144 in 32 Overs with former Guyana Under-15 batsman Kevin Ramdeen 46, Sasenarine Sukhdeo 27, Totaram Seenanan 2 for 23. Adelphi 94 in 31 Overs with Khamesh Kassim 4 for 7, Sanjay Khan 2 for 13.
