‘Cheap talk’ is not the answer
Dear Editor,
On Monday September l3th in Kaieteur News the Health Minister spoke about suicide as the highest causes of death among the Guyanese people.
The President also earlier this year or last year spoke on Berbice TV about why there are so many suicides among Berbicians.
Mr. Editor, I want them to know that the main reason for suicide is because people are not happy and they don’t feel secure any more.
Most of them don’t have answers to their problems, especially if it is a government related matter, like reporting abuse, rape, a rich man etc. to the police.
Even going to court there is much pushing around and the matter will suddenly drop or probably was never taken up.
Berbicians are easy going people and because of this may I say that the leaders are taking advantage on them.
We have to run to New Amsterdam and back because someone is not doing his/her job and sometimes to Georgetown for police matters, GRA and other distressing long line waiting days.
We don’t have anyone proper to report matters to as a higher step; the Regional Chairman is only interested to be on TV, than to be in the field and he hard to make contact with. It’s like trying to meet the President.
Many times we have reported about the large and thick bushes next to the Skeldon Hospital, which harbours mosquitoes and thieves to the Town Council, and nothing is done to help taxpayers.
If the fire service doesn’t need the land then give it to the orphanage?
The hospital mortuary incinerator has a low chimney and when they burn stuff it affects citizens. The Government doesn’t want to lengthen it, and we are talking about health?
Too many young and inexperience doctors are sent here to experiment on people and no proper investigation is made after a careless death.
We have too much talking about doing this and doing that on TV, but we are still in the same place and frustrated.
Who really is going to help us as poor people to live enjoyable and long lives?
