Dear Editor,
I write in frustration of the noise nuisance that is plaguing my village, Stanleytown, West Bank of Demerara (WBD).
Of late there has been the regular hosting of open air dances on the local playground with the playing of very loud music. I have had to disarm my vehicle alarm on these occasions since the vibration from the base would set off the alarm. These dances would start about 5pm during the weekends and go to about 3 to 4am into the next day. I have sought help from the following police enforcement arms:
Ø D Division (under whose jurisdiction Stanleytown falls)
Ø Wales Police Station (whose area of policing covers Stanleytown)
Ø La Grange Police Station (the other police station close to Stanleytown and where a police patrol is normally based).
None of these entities has been able to provide any assistance so far. They would tell you that they have sent officers to stop the music, but nothing happens and you just have to endure the bombardment until the youngsters would have had enough and bring closure to their party.
As a hard working taxpayer don’t I have the right to quiet weekends? Is this too much to ask of our law enforcement officers? I would hope by writing this letter someone in authority in the Guyana Police Force or elsewhere would hear my plea for help and put a stop to this emerging madness. Ian Manifold, M.Soc.Sc
