Guyana’s Nigel Bryan emerged winner of the Cecil James Table-Tennis Singles Junior (Under-18) tournament at the Maloney Indoor Sport Arena, in Trinidad, on Saturday.

In the championship match, Bryan outlasted local player Orell Cooper in five sets, 11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 11-13, 11-3.
Earlier on in the semi-finals, Bryan was also taken to five sets by Arun Roopnarine, before he prevailed, 11-13, 4-11, 11-6, 13-11, 11-9, while Cooper got the better of Meshach Pillai 9-11, 4-11, 11-6, 13-11, 11-9.
In the last-eight match-ups, Bryan defeated Andreus Pantin 11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 11-4, Cooper dumped national women’s team player, Catherine Spicer, 13-11, 3-11, 11-6, 11-6, Pillai overcame Rakellon Pierre 8-11, 11-9, 11-9, 13-11 and Roopnarine stopped Aaron Wilson 1-11, 11-3, 11-9, 14-12.
Yesterday, Barbadian Kevin Farley and Guyana’s Colin France headlined the list of challengers for the Open title.
Farley, is an ex-Caribbean champion, and France, a former three-time Guyana national champion were listed to battle with national senior team player Curtis Humphreys, reigning national title-holder Michael Nanton, Under-21 winner, Kyle Borneo, Everton Sorzano and Alaric Humphreys.
