The three Guyanese female cricketers who were part of the successful West Indies Women team in the just concluded International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s Cricket Tournament held in South Africa, have returned home stating that it was a great tour.
The trio – all-rounders Tremayne Smartt and Shemaine Campbell and medium pacer Subrina Munroe, said, “It was a great tour; we enjoyed it and we looking forward to keep being West Indies cricketers.”
West Indies proved themselves to be the best Twenty20 side at the tournament after they defeated Sri Lanka in the final of the Twenty20 section. The West Indians made it to the finals of the Twenty20 by virtue of beating the Netherlands by 99 runs earlier in the day.
Debutant Munroe was excited about her Africa trip given the fact she performed credibly. “It was a privilege to be on the West Indies team and I would now like to encourage other female cricketers to be disciplined and work hard on their game and you can make it; the team’s spirit and camaraderie were also fantastic in the camp and it was a great bunch of players on tour; we played hard cricket and we came out on top,” Munroe mentioned.
The three Berbicians are anticipating being part of the West Indies team to an invitational tour of India early next year.
