Ravens, while less impressive against newcomer, Melanie Patriots, and Scorpions have set up the final showdown of the Pepsi Street Series when they both had sweeps at the Burnham Basketball Court Wednesday night in the Division III competition.
Ravens got rid of Patriots in the fourth quarter 50-45 after Patriots had held them off in the three preceding quarters. Patriots had a huge offensive first quarter that gave them a 17-5 points’ lead. When the Ravens narrowed that in the third it was all over.
Ravens were able to rally to a 37-39 point deficit at the end of the third period and then the junior and senior dunk champion, Tyrone Hamid took over in the fourth quarter. Hamid top scored with 18 points for Ravens while Jason Harper had 13 points.
David Fletchman had 15 points for Melanie while Rayon Hopper had 15 points. Melanie and one of the better organised teams in local basketball, Courts Pacesetters, took back seats as Scorpions made no mistake in eliminating Pacesetters from the event.
Pacesetters could not find a way to stop Shelroy Thomas and paid a heavy price. Thomas, who is a former national junior guard, poured in 38 points while Drexel Arron scored 16 points to help a lethal team to a 79-62 point win against Courts Pacesetters.
Richard Mohandatt was the sole player in double digits for Pacesetters with 27 points. Scorpions and Ravens will now play in the final of the Pepsi Division III Street Series. The competition had its Division I second games played last night at the same venue.
