– but can they win the war?
Beepat’s Scorpions will go into tonight’s initial Division III game of the Pepsi Street Series with much confidence after dropping only one game to Melanie Patriots on their way to winning what has been a competitive Georgetown sub-association League.
They have won the battle now it is about the war, and Scorpions’ Head Coach, Vijay Panday will want to prove that his team is indeed the best in the Division III category with a win in the Street Series, which comprises the four top teams from the League.
His first challenge is Courts Pacesetters, which finished fourth in the League. Robert Cadogan and his Pacesetters team will use the Pepsi Street Series as a rebounder from their performance in the League, which makes them the hungrier unit in the clash.
So with Scorpions attempting to maintain their momentum from the League and Pacesetters want to prove that the number one place among the four best Division III teams in Georgetown really belongs to them, tonight’s clash is set to become a scorcher.
Scorpions have defiantly regrouped with a strong brigade of young talent while Pacesetters seem to be in transition. However, since there are factors such as the cash prize up for grabs, a different brand of basketball from Pacesetters could be on show tonight.
Cadogan will attempt to deny Panday advantages after the latter had made a pitch for Cadogan’s national coaching job earlier in the year when Cadogan was named to coach the President’s XII that lost a three-game series against the Washington D.C Jammers.
A win for Panday could set him on course toward winning the three game series that is needed to advance to the final of the Street Series. If Panday wins both the battle and the war of the League and Street Series his National Coach ambition will have root.
The night will also feature Ravens against the underdog of the tournament, Melanie Patriots, a team that has lots to be proud of after reaching the final four of the League after just a year of its registration with the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association. (Edison Jefford)
