“The Berbice Cricket Board is proud of each one of you and we are confident that you would make your family, Berbice, Guyana and the West Indies proud. The facts that the three female Berbicians are the only Guyanese on the West Indies Team speak volumes of the high level of cricket in Berbice”.
Those were the words of Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) President Keith Foster at a simple presentation ceremony at the Board’s Cheddi Jagan Street office when the Board presented $10,000 each to Tremayne Smartt, Subrina Munroe and Shemaine Campbell.
The trio departed Guyana on Thursday to start preparation for the upcoming tour of the West Indies Female team to South Africa. Chairman of the BCB’s Special Events Committee Hilbert Foster told the West Indies selectees that the Board was quite proud of them and urged them not to only excel on the cricket field but also to be proper ambassadors for the County and country.
Success, Foster said comes via hard work, commitment and discipline and he urged the players to follow that formula.
He committed the Special Events Committee and the Board to assist all promising players in the Ancient County to fulfill their potential if they {players} are committed.
All-rounder Tremayne Smartt spoke on behalf of the trio and expressed gratitude to the BCB for the role it played in the development of the game in the Ancient County and also for their financial contribution.
A confident Smartt stated that the trio will make everyone associated with Berbice and Guyana’s cricket proud and pledged that they would be worthwhile national ambassadors.
