Dear Editor,
The recent unstatesmanlike behaviour exhibited by the President is just one episode in a long list since he took office, be it in public at Babu John on the Corentyne or at private gatherings, be it against the newspapers, the television stations, businesses or private individuals.
Even when he does not lash out, his demeanour when asked about certain issues speaks better than a million words – his blazing eyes, his contorted face and his distended nostrils and his apparent fighting to control his emotions.
On many occasions he is apparently extremely tactless to deal with criticisms and his reaction is Neanderthal in nature – to hit out, is his first line of defence.
A leader is an example setter. But here is a person whose goal is to save the world (Low Carbon development Strategy (LSDC) but who has no reservation in exterminating his opponents – no matter what form it may take. Moreover, this type of behaviour is mimicked by his Ministers as well!
At one time the President spoke about persons behaving as ‘mini-kings queens’, he was absolutely correct, but he should have realised that their arrogance was only derived from his own attitude. This is undeniable! These people feel that they are invincible! Just look at the way his Ministers speak and behave in public. Can these people be called ‘the servants of the people’? I doubt this. They are evidently ‘the Masters of the people’!
Lastly, Guyanese are reaping what they have sown and they will continue to do so if they continue to make these people feel invincible. Guyanese are a religious people who have elected irreligious people to govern them and unless this is changed, these callous, individuals will continue unabated. Haseef Yusuf
