The Tenelec Inc. sponsored 50 overs First division tournament organised by the Berbice Cricket Board bowled off on Sunday last with first round matches across the Ancient County.
Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets, Bermine, Albion, West Berbice and Edinburgh recorded victories while Scottsburg United failed to prepare their home pitch to host Skeldon.
At the Albion Community Centre, Albion defeated Port Mourant by 47 runs in a low scoring affair. Batting first, Albion were dismissed for 127 in 35 overs with Hemindra Ramdyal 27, Hemnarine Chattergoon 22 and Doodnauth Lallbeharry 21, the principal scorers.
Shameer Khan 3-19 and Andre Percival 3-25 were the main wreckers for Port Mourant who in reply were shot out for a disappointing 80 in 29.3 overs. Steven Latcha 17 and Shameer Khan 16 were the only bats to handle the bowling of Ervin Mangru who snared 3-9 and Harrinarine Chattergoon 3-12.
At the Area ‘H’ Ground, Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets brushed aside Rose Hall Canje by 9 wickets in a one sided affair. Batting first, Rose Hall Canje were dismissed for 88 with only Sasenarine Sukhdeo 23, reaching double figures.
Left arm spinner Damon Vantull 3-9 and 14 year-old Shawn Perreira 3-14 were the main wicket takers for the home team who in reply reached 89-1 off 19.5 overs. National Under-19 player Dominic Rikhi top scored with an unbeaten 36, Jason Sinclair was also unbeaten on 33.
West Berbice got past Blairmont by 5 wickets at the Blairmont Community Centre Ground. The home team was shot out for 92 in 24 overs with only Romain Boodram 32 and Emerson Benjamin 17 not out reaching double figures. Krisendat Ramoo 3-13, Keyron Fraser 2-13 and Keon Joseph 2-15 bowled well for West Berbice. In reply the visitors ended on 93-5 wickets in 28.1 overs with Artley Bailey 25 and Kwesi Mentore 28*. Doodnauth Persaud claimed 2-10 for Blairmont.
At the Edinburgh Ground, Bermine squeezed past Police by one wicket. Police batting first were dismissed for 112 in 27.5 overs. Rocky Hutson 33* was the principal contributor. Medium pacer Julian Moore 4-18 off 9 overs, Joemal
