Demerara Cricket Board President Bissoon Singh said in a press release yesterday that the DCB were supporting the Guyana Amazon Conquerors T/20 cricket team which will represent the entire Caribbean in the Champions League T/20 tournament in South Africa from next week Sunday when they face the Royal Challengers Bangalore in their opening match.
Singh, a GCB Vice-President and Chairman of the GCB Cricket Development Committee told the Ramnaresh Sarwan-led team that the journey to South Africa would be an unforgettable one not only for them and Guyana but the greater region they represent.
The full test of the release read:- ‘We cannot express in words how Guyanese (home and abroad) felt after the Guyana T20 squad demanded their rightful place when they conquered their opponents and were crowned Champion of the Caribbean; it was a firm display of leadership, reliability, perseverance and professionalism, indeed it was a festival of excellence.
The journey to South Africa will be an unforgettable one not only for you and Guyana but the greater region you represent.
Whilst the oppositions will sturdy and the task will be tremendous, the goal will not be beyond your reach and complacency must be allowed to undermine your mission.
Nevertheless, we are confident that you will attain success in an exceptional fashion. Our expectations are high and we are convinced that nothing will prevent you from replicating your performances and emphatically demanding the CL T20 Championship crown. The tone is now set and we will be supporting you every moment, carefully observing our beautiful Golden Arrowhead being skillfully placed at the very peak with the people of the Caribbean celebrating.
The President and Executives of the Demerara Cricket Board and the Cricket Development Committee of the Guyana Cricket Board would like to take this opportunity to wish you well. Best Wishes and Waka Waka South Africa.”
