The Editor refers to a letter published in KN on Sunday, June 20 written by someone whose name and address were withheld.
The letter writer questions the figures cited in the commentary by Sir Ronald Sanders entitled “The Politics of Leadership: Guyana and its Presidency” regarding Guyana’s recent economic performance.
Asked about the letter writer’s comments, Sir Ronald replied as follows:
“For the information of your readers, the figures were taken from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and can be seen on the IMF’s Internet Website: http://www.imf.org/external/np/sec/pn/2010/pn1048.htm
The anonymous letter writer also erroneously stated in his letter that my first commentary was “based on an un-authored circulated email which was used to produce a ‘serious’ piece’.
I had no knowledge of the “un-authored circulated email” until after I had written my commentary. It was mentioned to me by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Robert Corbin. I have not looked at the email or given it in any credibility.
“Un-authored” emails or newspaper letters that bear no name are usually written by persons with a personal agenda and a desire to hide. By definition, they cannot be credible or taken seriously.”
