– Athletes vs. Entertainers to headline b/ball event
Local celebrities will be performing on the basketball stage tonight at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) in the first ever Fire Basketball Club ‘Celebrity Charity Game’ that is an initiative to raise funds for the club and unisex orphanage, Joshua House.
The evening’s headline celebrity game will be the Athletes vs. Entertainers clash that will feature some of Guyana’s renowned personalities. Coach and President of the Fire Club, Kester Gomes’ belief is that this should be an entertaining basketball battle.
The Entertainers will look to belt out basketball tracks from rapper, Don Gialiani, Dallas Forte, Jomo Primo, Jory, Brains among many others, who are expected to grace the venue. Patrons will get to see their local stars get down and sweaty on the court.
National rugby player, Theodore Henry will team-up with his rugby team-mate, Claudius Butts, national cricketers Leon Johnson, Stephen Jacobs, Christopher Barnwell, big-bikes racer Stephen Vieira, Lorian Adams, and national football captain, Howard Lowe.
The local celebrities have been training hard to sharpen their skills as the popular sportsmen and women go hard against the entertainers. The evening opens at 5pm with a colossal ‘battle of the Banks’ as Republic Bank takes on Scotia Bank in the first game.
One of the more keenly contested games of the night will be when the University of Guyana take on the Media All-Stars in the second game. Lots of bragging rights is at stake in this game with a relatively strong UG team facing off with the men that make the news.
All in all the night is expected to be one filled with glitz, glamour and perspiration. The celebrity basketball games comes compliments of Giftland OfficeMax, Digicel and Gatorade, which Gomes said will be the official drink of the event.
