Merely days subsequent to her light/heavyweight Women’s International Boxing Association world title bout against Veronica Blackman, Gwendolyn ‘Stealth Bomber’ O’Neil has dispatched a missive to the former fighter. “Come with your nightgown because I will put you to sleep.” She further said that she is targeting the fourth round to close up shop.
O’Neil issued this threat yesterday morning when Kaieteur News spoke with her as she strolled along Regent Street engaged in window shopping. “I have trained extremely hard for this bout and there is absolutely nothing that will stop me from taking that crown,” O’Neil continued.
As if to emphasize her seriousness she flexed her muscles and folded her fists. “This is what the little girl will get,” she said, obviously referring to Blackman.
The former WIBA light/heavyweight champion pointed out that she has been engaged in rigorous training sessions under the tutelage of her coach Lennox Daniels at the Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis Gym, Albouystown. Last Sunday morning she boxed eight rounds with ‘Deadly’ Denny Dalton, who himself is preparing for fistic duty against world renowned Hector ‘Machito’ Camacho on the same card.
“I like boxing with the men they are the only ones that can take the roughness,” proclaimed O’Neil. She said, also, that she has been pushing her body to the limit in anticipation of a tough fight. “I know that Blackman would be coming hard and I do not want to underestimate her but I can tell you there is no way that she will win this fight,” a confident O’Neil declared.
The ‘Stealth Bomber’ who now resides in the USA said that she is now under the capable management of Elton Prospere, a businessman living in her adopted home. She said that he is unable to travel for the bout but has sent a representative who is expected in Guyana sometime today.
Meanwhile, O’Neil said that she will be engaged in light workouts for the rest of the week in preparation for the weekend fight. “My fans can visit the Andrew Lewis Boxing Gym from 16:00hrs to assess my condition,” she said.
