Dear Editor,
I write to condemn the recent attack on University of Guyana’s political scientist and Kaieteur News columnist Mr. Frederick Kissoon.
This attack on Mr. Kissoon, who is a fierce critic of the Government, signifies the low level of indecency to which some in our society has sunk.
Whether this attack was orchestrated by person or persons within the ruling administration, the fact is, under the PPP administration the free and independent media is under constant threat.
Guyanese now live in an environment where citizen’s human rights are violated with impunity and economic and other pressures are brought to bear on media organisations that are perceived to be critics of the government.
This attack on Mr. Kissoon is also an attack on free speech, an act Guyanese should heed and be ever vigilant about. There is no doubt that the throwing of fecal matter in Mr. Kissoon’s face is an attempt to silence him. Mr. Kissoon’s integrity, moral resilience and relentless fight for good governance and justice in our society under the PNC and now the PPP administration should warn the cowards that he will not be silenced and he will not be intimidated.
All decent minded Guyanese should join in condemning this attack.
