The ‘big’ games start tonight

North wants to go unbeaten in the National Mackeson Super Ward Basketball Championships, but the only thing standing in their way tonight is Christianburg – a team that much was not expected of in the tournament, but one that proved that they are worth being in the Final Four.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport yesterday at their practice session in Campbellville, North Ruimveldt’s captain, Darcel Harris said that he will leave no stones unturned in the Final Four round because he wants his team to go unbeaten.
“I will not be taking any team for granted. We have two players that can play every position on the court so we can take on any team. I want my team to go unbeaten in this tournament,” Harris told this newspaper.
The captain, coach and lead point guard of the Georgetown Inter-Ward Champions thinks that his side is capable of dismantling any opposition. To do so, he will rely heavily on his more experienced players in the ‘big games’.
Rudy James, Ryan Gullen, Ryan Stephney, Stephon Henry, Sereiah Clarke and Damian Liverpool are among the players that Harris will depend on to give his team the impetus before the commencement of tomorrow’s semi-final.
Christianburg, on the other hand, has to play the same fundamental basketball that has them in championships contention. They have a quality bunch of players to create what would be a major upset in the ‘Garden City’ tonight.
Nkossi Gurrick has been playing well and will continue to dominate the board, which will give Christianburg lots of second attempts. Trevor Profitt, Quincy Jones and Nevin Grenville will assist the ‘big man’ on his mission to take down North.
The feature game tonight will bring together Albouystown/Charlestown and Central Mackenzie in a game worthy of being the final. This battle would be breathtaking as Central’s Steve Neils Jr comes up against the skilful Rodwell Fortune, Kevin Joseph and Akeem Kanhai. Dwayne Roberts’ Albouystown team will look to capitalise on home court advantage to extend their wining streak in the tournament to 4-0. Central Mackenzie will not lay back and allow that to happen, which is why the game is massive.
