Dear Sir,
In his article on the HP Cricket Centre, Mr. Sean Devers suggested that Mr. Roger Harper is the front runner for the position of Head Coach. Mr. Devers is noted for his industry and research but I find this suggestion very alarming.
Mr. Roger Harper recently was part of a group that changed the landscape of the Executive of the Georgetown Cricket Association. In so doing, he committed an unpardonable act in removing the sitting President of the Demerara Cricket Club from the Presidency of the Georgetown Cricket Association.
Mr. Harper is a member of longstanding of the Demerara Cricket Club and I am sure much thought was given to competing against Mr. Alfred Mentore for the Presidency of the Georgetown Cricket Association.
I am therefore curious to learn when Mr. Harper applied for this job. If it was before the Georgetown Cricket Association’s election, did he confide in his colleagues that he may not be able to serve them, not only in the medium and long term but even in the short term?
If he applied after his election as Georgetown Cricket Association’s President, the position is even worse.
For the aforementioned reasons, I do not believe that Mr. Harper will sever ties with the Presidency of the Georgetown Cricket Association and as such I feel Mr. Devers should further research this matter so as to clear the air and avoid any embarrassment to Mr. Harper. Wayne H.
