Dear Editor,
Shane Rizwan is a man of words! In his letter “Another paid sycophant?” (Kaieteur News, 13-04-10), he described my “attempts/offerings” in interesting terms in the first sentence.
I would like him to elucidate why my “attempts/offerings” are:
1. “Puerile”
2. “Inane”
3. “Myopic”
Because of dem boulders in my eyes that he mentioned, I cannot see well; will he please tell me who I “apotheosize”?
Mr. Rizwan accuses me of being a paid sycophant. Actually he is the one who appears to be a sycophant. He reminds me of a prominent columnist. If someone dares to affirm a deed or policy of the Government, or if one confronts the columnist’s premises, without hesitation this columnist lumps one as either a ghost writer, myopic or a PPP sycophant.
To save Mr. Rizwan some time and energy, I would like to inform him that I have never held any briefs for the PPP. I am not being paid for writing letters; my writing is motivated by love for country and a desire to have balanced juxtaposition of views.
‘So why not address the (many) wrongs of the PPP; why pick on poor Freddie Kissoon’, Mr. Rizwan mused. If I remember correctly, this is the exact question posed by Mr. Kissoon to Harry Hargesh a few months ago for questioning his premises.
There is a myriad of critics to the Government – and they surely ought to be criticised when necessary. But the reason I respond to the “attempts/offerings” of the columnist in question is that he pontificates relentlessly day after day as if he is the know-all and all-good. Too bad he did not take up Stella Ramsaroop’s challenge for a head-on debate; too bad he backed off!
The hypocrisy of those who stand on high and holy intellectual ground must be exposed otherwise the mass could regard his message as gospel. Also, throwing mud constantly sometimes stick; it could easily blind some.
I look forward to the answers to my questions in your reply, Mr. Rizwan. And oh…I also have my (long!) list of PPP short-comings!
