The Linden Town Week Super-Eight Basketball Championships will start tonight at the Mackenzie Sports Club court with Victory Valley Royals taking on Block 22 Flames in the first game and Kings challenging Jets in the feature.
President of the Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA), Abdulla Hamid told Kaieteur Sport when contacted yesterday that the tournament has to do with observing the annual Town Week celebrations in the Mining Town.
“It’s all about Town Week. We have our official season opening with a First Division League, so this tournament is just to give our teams some prepping up before the League,” Hamid said briefly.
The eight Division I clubs in Linden will compete for a $100,000 first place prize with the second place team taking home $60,000, the third place team $40,000 and the fourth placed team $20,000 in the knockout event.
