Director of Public Prosecutions Shalimar Ali-Hack said she is highly peeved at the fact that some police officers blatantly practice to misguide the public when they claim that she is in possession of a criminal file when that is not the truth.
The DPP made this comment yesterday, after ranks from the Ruimveldt Station claimed that they had sent a sexual assault file to her for legal advice.
An allegation was made by a 14-year-old girl and her mother against a Muslim leader in the Alexander Village community.
This newspaper on Tuesday afternoon had contacted the Ruimveldt Station and was told that the report was made and the matter is with the DPP for legal advice.
However, the DPP in an invited comment vehemently denied that she ever received a file and wasn’t aware of the story until it was published in this newspaper.
She explained to this publication that early yesterday morning she contacted the officer in charge of crime for ‘A’ Division, Winston Cosbert, who himself said he had not seen the file.
Kaieteur News understands that criminal files would normally be sent to Mr. Cosbert before they are forwarded to the DPP.
The DPP said that Mr. Cosbert has mounted an investigation to see which rank, is so bold to blatantly lie on himself and the DPP.
The mother of a 14-year-old girl had said that she was distressed at the fact that her daughter was raped and nothing has developed one month after the matter was placed in the jurisdiction of the Police.
The teen has alleged that she was forced to have sex and was held captive for one month by an Imam of Alexander village.
The girl also claimed that she was beaten. She related that she managed to escape on March 17, last.
The mother claimed that she reported the matter to the Ruimveldt Police Station the same night her daughter escaped and statements were taken.
