Competition in the Mayor’s Cup football championship resumes today at the Georgetown Football Club ground after a short break during the week.
Heavy rainfall had forced the organisers to call off the games set for Wednesday and Thursday, but all is set for an exciting resumption with two mouth watering games.
Action today pits Santos against Uitvlugt in the opening game, while BK Intl. Western Tigers come up against Den Amstel in the nightcap.
Santos will depend on O’Neil Haywood, Glenorvan Edmonds, Trevor Lewis, Shemroy Arthur, Williams Europe and Casey John to lead their charge. Uitvlugt have Charles Stoby, Sherwin Lanferman, Owen McGarrell, Shawn, Seon and Trayon Bobb and Kester Alberts to spearhead their challenge.
Both teams will be seeking to advance further in the tournament, but only one will succeed setting the stage for an exciting battle.
Western Tigers, in rebuilding mode, will be led by skipper Sherman David, Michael Henry, Oswald Cornette, Dwayne Ali and Odel Williams as they look to make an impression. However, the Tigers could be in for a tough time from the Den Amstel outfit, who have been in training. They last weekend won a tournament staged in the West Demerara area and would look to continue their forward thrust.
Den Amstel will centre their attack around Kester Jacobs, back from a good run in Trinidad, Colin Benn, Kerwin Warde, Maurice Charles, Devon Dash and goalkeeper Kester Dundas, the last line of defence.
