Dear Editor,
I refer to Mr. Freddie Kissoon’s article captioned, “Knight of long, creeping secrets” [Kaieteur News 30/03/10].
I agree with Mr. Kissoon’s conclusion that Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo’s statement about Ms. Singh Knight’s colossal lack of judgement in her management of CLICO (Guyana) is nothing short of asinine.
It is indeed quite shocking that a person who demonstrated bad judgement in the management of an insurance business which has resulted in tremendous loss to many, could be placed on the Board of Directors of Guyana’s largest company (GuySuCo) which is itself in great financial problems due to a lack of judgement on the part of the cabal running it.
But Freddie stopped short of going into a deeper “Freudian” analysis of the incestuous nature of this Knight in shining armour’s meteoric rise.
This brings us to the Berbice River Bridge. Mr. Jagdeo regards this bridge as an important symbol of what he considers to be his legacy. This is where the Knight in shining armour rides in on a horse named CLICO.
With the Knight holding the reins, CLICO became one of the largest investors in the bridge — over $2 billion. In so doing with the Knight in the saddle, CLICO (Guyana) helped salvage part of what Mr. Jagdeo perceives to be his legacy. The Knight in shining armour then demonstrated her skills at magic by making over $2 billion of Guyanese people’s money invested in the NIS, disappear somewhere in the Bahamas.
In December 2009 certain well connected friends of Freedom House who had large investments in CLICO (Guyana) were forewarned about the imminent collapse of CLICO (worldwide) and decided to withdraw their money from CLICO (Guyana).
This run on CLICO (Guyana), then caused a great cash flow problem for CLICO (Guyana). The only way for CLICO (Guyana) to pay off this well connected few was to liquidate its investment in the Berbice River Bridge.
The New Building Society (NBS) then purchased CLICO’s investment in the Berbice Bridge and CLICO had enough money to pay off these well connected friends.
It is for all these “special skills” which the Knight in shining armour possesses, that Mr. Jagdeo rewarded her by having her appointed to the Board of Directors of GuySuCo.
Now Freddie, do you see the incestuous “Freudian” processes at work?
