I too possess ‘significant skills, frankly speaking’

I refer to an article published in Kaieteur News (30-03-10) captioned, “Jagdeo’s defence of Geeta Singh-Knight high class lawlessness – Trotman”, where the Alliance For Change (AFC) Leader, Mr. Raphael Trotman, was pronouncing on the President’s defence of Mrs. Singh-Knight’s position of sitting on GuySuCo’s Board of Directors albeit voluntarily and without compensation. What really irked me was the second paragraph which read, “Head of State, Bharrat Jagdeo, recently told media operatives that it was a spate of bad decisions that led to the collapse of insurance giant Colonial Life Insurance Company (CLICO) Guyana but its then CEO Singh-Knight still has, “significant skills, frankly speaking.”
After reading that article and particular paragraph I concluded that, under this present administration, being CEO of a company that was found to have breached the Insurance Act and also making bad decisions, investments and judgments is quite acceptable/up to standards and equals to the opportunity of gaining a seat on the Board of Directors of the largest employer in Guyana. That certainly gives weight to an individual’s Curriculum Vitae.
But editor, I’m curious as to whether the decision by police officers to pour mentholated spirits on the genitals of a 14-year-old and then set him alight or a PPP/C member to pronounce on allegations of torture (I’m not sure if this was in relation to the mentholated spirits incident or other incidents) as mere “roughing up” will also be deemed as “Bad Decisions!” Further, if they are deemed “Bad Decisions!” will they equate to opportunities of being able to sit on perhaps the Board of Guyana’s Central Intelligence Agency, which is still to be established, as with the case of the police officers or being named the next presidential candidate as with the case of the PPP/C member?
In closing, editor, I too would also like to respectfully declare that I possess “significant skills, frankly speaking” and they are/were displayed every five years since 2001. I patiently await 2011!
