At GABBFF Novices on Sunday
The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) will be leaving no stones unturned when the entity makes its debut at the upcoming Guyana Amateur Bodybuilding & Fitness Federation (GABBFF) Novices Championships set for the Lawns of the Government Technical Institute (GTI) on Sunday evening from 19:00hrs.
The Army will be sending a 15-member team with the main aim of sweeping the various categories. Yesterday afternoon, Kaieteur Sport visited the Army Gym located at Camp Ayanganna to have a firsthand look at the preparations of the competitors.
The Gym was not only being used by Bodybuilders but by Track and Field athletes among others. The buzz around was excitement and an air of high expectation as they went through their various routines; the females being assisted by the GABBFF President while the males were going through some light weights work on their own.
Captain Sinclair who is also Vice President of the GABBFF informed Kaieteur Sport that he is expecting great things from the GDF contingent. “We held our internal competition, the GDF Novices on December 10, 2009 under the theme, Restoring Physical Image and Capability through Bodybuilding and our athletes are quite prepared and confident of doing well on Sunday.”
The GDF athletes have been under the guidance of Major F. Warde and Staff Sergeant Rigby who have been doing an excellent job whipping them into competition shape. Come Sunday evening, the competition is expected to be stiff with a number of competitors also expected from Total Fitness Gym at Grove on the East Bank of Demerara.
Team GDF includes Andrew Cush, Michael Simon, Patrick Bristol, Kevon Waddle, Oswald Goodridge, Juanita Hooper, Phillicia Burke, Gavin Wilson, Letitia Myles, Shannah Thornhill, Daeseia Junor, Kascia Beaton, Devon Davis and Darson Campbell.
