The drivers and passengers of two route 44 minibuses can consider themselves lucky to have escaped alive when the vehicles they were in collided at the Conversation Tree junction, East Coast Demerara, at around 20:00 hrs yesterday.
One of the vehicles, BHH 2594, was reportedly heading for Plaisance, while the other BLL 7173 was heading to Georgetown from Ann’s Grove when the crash occurred.
Reports indicate that the driver of the Plaisance-bound vehicle was about to turn to head towards the Railway Embankment, when he ended up in the path of the other approaching bus.
The bus that was heading to Georgetown slammed into the side of the Plaisance-bound vehicle, which overturned.
Both vehicles suffered extensive damage.
Kaieteur News observed vegetables and other belongings of the victims strewn on the roadway.
Bloodstains on the inside and exterior of the vehicles also seemed to indicate that some of the occupants were seriously injured.
However, checks at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation revealed that the victims had only sustained cuts and abrasions.
