Residents of Essequibo Coast are appealing for the revocation of the driver’s licence of a 78-year-old, Queenstown Village man who was involved in an accident on Thursday evening last on the Queenstown Public Road.
The man was released from police custody on $10,000 bail after being questioned by officers for a mere two hours, a situation which invoked tremendous anger.
Residents are claiming that the aged mini bus driver is presently experiencing poor vision.
According to a police report, at about 5.30pm, Thursday last, at Queenstown Public Road, the driver of the mini-bus, Dax Walcott, was venturing into Queenstown Bus Shed Street, after going over a hump and accidentally struck down 19-year-old, Andrew Adams, who was at the time exiting the said street.
Adams was instantly rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital by the driver and a passenger. According to Adams’ employer who requested anonymity, the young man sustained broken thighs and ribs.
She said the teenager had to undergo three hours of emergency operation to his stomach and was on a life support machine for two days.
He is said to be recovering after losing one of his spleens.
