DEAR EDITOR,
In 1953 in quite different circumstances, a then Government Minister, in response to what we all considered an inappropriate assault said, “this confounded nonsense must stop”
This is my reaction after observing the Government’s steady assault and propaganda in trying to make capital out of a figment of its own imagination – the allegation that Dr. Janette Bulkan was present when Suriname displayed a map that violated our territorial integrity.
Dr. Bulkan has denied being present and the majority of Guyanese believe her. But even if she was, it is being used as a clear diversionary trick to let the government off the hook as she exposes its stupid and self-serving handling of the Forestry Sector and beyond.
Enough has been said on this matter, save for me to assure Dr. Bulkan that all the persons that I have spoken to support her fully and admire her courage and resilience in the face of a well-oiled and funded propaganda machine directed against her over the years.
That aside, this PPP Administration should hang its head in shame. Here we have a Guyanese, highly qualified in Forestry, indeed, to the best of my knowledge, the only one apart from the late Dr. Kenneth King who is so qualified and experienced. Instead of the government making every effort to secure her services, it sets out to malign, humiliate and terrorize her. But this is the modus operandi of a government that has the gall to sail its silly, selfish ship on the waves of democracy.
I hope every patriot and concerned Guyanese, as this letter is intended to do, assures Dr. Bulkan that we admire her stance and hope and pray that others will set their fear aside and expose the calumny of this present administration, so that, we bequeath to our children a society that is free of the immorality, impropriety, greed and in some cases, sheer stupidity that we witness these days, in Guyana.
